Turn a Daylio backup into a CSV

Daylio exports a CSV on its own: open the app, tap More, then Export Entries. If that is what you need, use it. This page is for the other case, when what you have is the backup file. The one you backed up to Google Drive or iCloud. The one you moved to a new phone. The one from a phone the app is no longer on. Drop it here and you get the same CSV, plus a JSON file with the parts the CSV leaves out, such as each mood’s place on Daylio’s five-step scale. The file stays in this tab.

Or drop it here. It stays in this tab.

How to get the backup out of Daylio

  1. Open Daylio and tap More.
  2. Tap Backup & Restore.
  3. Open Advanced options and tap Export.
  4. Save the .daylio file to Files on iPhone or Downloads on Android, then choose it above.

Questions

Is my journal uploaded?

No. The file is opened in your browser and never leaves it. One small message goes out when a file is converted: the tool’s name and whether it worked. Nothing from the file goes with it.

What is in the CSV?

Eight columns, the same as Daylio’s own export: full_date, date, weekday, time, mood, activities, note_title, note. Newest entry first. Activities are separated by a bar, so anything built for a Daylio CSV reads this one.

What about photos?

Not included. Daylio keeps them in a separate folder inside the backup, and this page reads the entries only. Keep the backup file if you want the photos.

Why is there an app on this page?

We make Life Pattern Journal, a journaling app that runs statistics over a log like this one, on the phone. It is not released yet. A waiting list appears under the result once a file is converted. The CSV is yours either way.
